  • Special Tactics Airman to be awarded the Air Force Cross

    Secretary of the Air Force Barbara Barrett will be presenting the Air Force Cross to a Special Tactics Airman during a ceremony at 11:30 a.m. MST at Cannon Air Force Base, New Mexico, Dec.10, 2020. U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Alaxey Germanovich, an ST combat controller with the 26th Special Tactics Squadron, 24th Special Operations Wing, Air Force Special Operations Command, will be awarded the nation’s second highest medal for gallantry against an armed enemy of the U.S. in combat.
  • Thai Cave Rescue: Two Years Later

    The two year anniversary of the Thai-led, multi-national operation to rescue the Wild Boar youth football team from Tham Luang cave park was remembered recently. The rescue happened July 8-10 2018 and involved a highly organized and synchronized effort involving critical coordination with multiple governments, international companies and foreign non-government agencies.
  • Air Force creates new AFSC for Special Warfare officers

    Effective April 30, special tactics, tactical air control party and combat rescue officers will transition from the command and control AFSC, 13XX, to the new AFSPECWAR officer AFSC, 19ZXX.
  • Special Tactics Airman killed in training incident

    U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Peter Kraines, 33, a Special Tactics pararescueman with the 24th Special Operations Wing, died from injuries sustained in a training incident while performing mountain rescue techniques in Boise, Idaho, Tuesday. The incident is currently under investigation.
